Glacier. The headwaters of North America. West Entrance.

August 30, 2016 by Jeff Hennie

The fishing is free in Glacier so I took full advantage. Got skunked though. Likely because that huge osprey kept diving in my fishing hole and stealing all the choice rainbow trout!

The water in Glacier is pure The waters here flow through out the North American Continent, Making it truly the headwaters of NA. All of the rivers and lakes run cold and fast and impossibly green. Glacier is spectacular. We saw plenty of glaciers e…

The water in Glacier is pure The waters here flow through out the North American Continent, Making it truly the headwaters of NA. All of the rivers and lakes run cold and fast and impossibly green. Glacier is spectacular. We saw plenty of glaciers even though the propaganda at the visitor promised they would all be gone by 2020. Unless we crank up the heat all the way, thats not likely any time soon.

Glacier National Park. Crown of the Continent. East entrance.

August 30, 2016 by Jeff Hennie

So we did Glacier twice. Once from the eastern entrance with my sister and her brood, pictured here. Thats Dad, Asher, Gilead, bashful Helen, Mom, Marta, Addi, Sweetie and me. We did an additional week coming in from the west entrance. Glacier is called the crown of the continent because western flora and fauna inhabit the west side, southern species take over the southern side and so on. So the west and eastern sides could not be more different. Really special place that Glacier.

The hike down to hidden lake, where lude acts of underwear swimming would haunt fellow hikers for years.

Yellowstone. Old Faithful and beyond.

"There she goes" her comment on OF, Marta sinsabaugh age 11.

Maybe I should take the chacos off next summer.

Boiling River, yellow stone. a 150 degree stream mingles with the cold mountain stream creating a perfect bath. Yellowstone can be a crowded mess a lot of the times. But when you get away from the main attractions, the fun really begins.

Don't Let Your Dreams Be Dreams-Benji

August 30, 2016 by Jeff Hennie

Climbing them or jumping off of them, I love a good ledge. We hung out on the beach of this pristine, geothermal heated lake in the Tetons. I spied a few brave souls leaping from this monolith. We hike around the lake to get a chance to leap ourselves. A was a solid Nope. I took my share of launches over a couple of hours. A family with kids were there. One of the kids, Benji, prob 12, hemmed and hawed, fawned and fretted for the entire time, wanting to jump. But he just couldn't. Walking to the edge, looking over, and then backing away. Over and over and over again. A girl, about his age, showed up and just jumped, much to little mr hesitant's dismay. That may have been the tipping point for Benji, He jumped not long after and then jumped again. His battle cry to his siblings, younger and older, to jump was: "Don't let your dreams be dreams!!!" I kinda liked it, live your dreams, make things come true. Only you can do that, no one will make any of your dreams come true, put yourself first. Live your life, not someone else's. Not trying to tony robbins you to death or anything, but you know what I mean.

This was Phelps Lake In Grand Teton National Park. It got warmer the farther out you swam. The guy I am trying not to land on was about 40 feet out floating for hours. The upward pitch of the jump meant that if you took a running start, which I advise you to do, you couldn't see the water below until you were up and over it. A lot of people gasped in mid air after just having left the rock and got a glance as to how high they were. Some shrieked with fear and immediate regret of their decision. Best day ever.
